I know Android phones have these features but I also wonder about importing them to my iMac and being able to play back slow-mo correctly. I've considered not switching but possibly adding an Android device.įor instance, if it had a better camera, though I mostly take panos, videos and time-lapse with my iPhone. With Apple increasing both sales and market share and Samsung having its sales and market share down. Worldwide Smartphone Sales to End Users by Vendor in 4Q16 (Thousands of Units)ĤQ16Units 4Q16 Market Share (%) 4Q15Units4Q15 Market Share (%) Well, that extra week argument was discussed, analyzed, debunked and found wanting.Īs about actual "data" of yours, here is latest from Gartner (also used recently by Paul Thurrott) I look at iPhones and see the last 5 quarters and see 1 flat, 3 down y/y, and one up.except that one that was up was only up by 5% and that quarter had an extra week in it over the previous year (so an extra 8.3% time).which means in reality.down. So? My uncertainity comes from actual sales data. Perhaps I missed the fact that iPhone Plus 7 was recalled all over the globe and Apple's top executive, someone called Tim Cook, is jailed for bribery.Or not? I am not sure that Apple's newer phones will get more traction than its previous generation. And I would like to see some numbers comparing S7 class phones as a percentage of Samsung total phone sales (best we can do is estimates from ASP, since no one breaks out sales by model). And the J series isn't the only low-end phone that they make. It had better have sold well in that time. Did the market saturate itself early or are people tending to use phablets more on the low end and other devices at the higher end?ġH 2016 was the launch half for the S7. Android tablets aren't picking up any of those presumed lost iPad sales. Sales of the iPad have flatlined and that's the clear market leader. I can probably find a source that thinks the iPhone 7 is a flaming pile of dog poo, even if 99% of other media give it at least decent reviews. "Fine" doesn't move product and they're merely "fine." Regardless, quoting one source doesn't strengthen your case. Honestly I think that they *are* uninspired and mediocre at this point in time. I'm not claiming anything about their tablets. The S8 is their chance to redeem themselves or not. In the US market, Galaxy S7 series phones outsold J series (low end garbage) at roughly 2:1 rates at least as recently in 1H 2016. Its new tablet was criticized by Verge as a forgettable version of iPad Pro. Its only pure premium line is Galaxy line (which was diluted in last 3 years), and reception of its new line is critical for the company. Most of Samsung devices are low cost Android phones. If they tread water, and fail to "gain traction", Samsung is still likely to move just as many phones as Apple. The company is in the midst of scandal.ĭespite that, the previous generation outsold the iPhone at a rate of about 1.8:1 for most of 2016, "only" falling to 1:1 in Q4 after they literally almost killed people with the only new product and their 6+ month old S7/Edge went up against the iPhone 8 without any discounts. I am not sure that Samsung's newer phones will get more traction than its previous generation. Now keep in mind that the S7 is almost a full generation behind current with new phones launching for the Spring refreshes pretty much now.
